Convex, expanding with age, covered with coarse scales, brown, bruising blood red, to about 10 cm across
Free, crowded, pinkish, then dark brown
Equal, or club shaped, white, then brown, bruising blood red, ring fleshy and near the apex
Firm, white, bruising blood red
On soil with coniferous trees
Spores ellipsoidal, smooth (4.5-6.5) x (3-4) µm2. Basidia club shaped, 4 spored. Gill edge cystidia septate, club shaped to ovoid.
This species could be confused with Agaricus langei, which has larger spores
